ArTs at Bost

Posted on Feb 26, 2017 under Featured Events

Bost, Inc. began an art program for individuals we serve in January.  The first class included eight to ten participants and their staff who wanted to be a part of the creative process.  Watercolor and acrylic paints are used in the class, with the hopes of expanding to additional media in the future.  When the class concludes on March 9th, we are excited to hold a public Bost ArTs exhibition to show finished works!

The exhibition will take place in the Marilyn Foster Building on Thursday March 16 from 5:30p to 7:30p.  The public is welcome to attend.  Light refreshments will be served and some of the individual works will be for sale via direct purchase and/or silent auction, with 90% of the proceeds going directly to the artist.  There are 10 artists being featured from this grant project, and they have been under the instruction of our artist-in-residence, Cathy Mason.  Cathy Mason is an experienced artist who has taught art for the Center for Art and Education (CAE) Van Buren and through the Art in Education program in Van Buren.  Ms. Mason is a teaching roster artist with the Arkansas Arts Council, Little Rock.  Cathy attained a BA Studio Art Degree from UAFS and a MS from U of A.

This program is a fun and educational way to for individuals to find a creative outlet, help them achieve their goals of artistic expression, and greatly improve their belief in themselves.  With the success of this course, Bost hopes to extend the program beyond March, and eventually include more individuals who are interested in expressing themselves through the arts.

If you would like to support the Bost ArTs program, please consider attending Painting with a Purpose on April 27 from 7 to 9pm at Painting with a Twist located at 3875 Phoenix Avenue, Fort Smith.

Thank you to the Center for Art & Education in Van Buren for encouraging Bost to apply for the Arts for Lifelong Learning Mini-Residency Grant Program.

This program is supported, in part, by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
