The Holidays are Coming to the Bostaurant!

Thanksgiving is a very special time at Bost, especially at the Marilyn Foster Complex!  It is an annual tradition for the Bostaurant to host a big family-style meal, and this year is no different.

Marcia Walker has overseen the Bostaurant for 10 years. From year to year, Marcia, and her small staff, prepare and serve a HUGE Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings to around 100 individuals served by Bost and their staff.  The team began ordering in advance to avoid the predicted shortages.  Everything has been carefully stored, waiting for the day before the meal is served to begin prepping.  First comes roasting, slicing, cooling, and storing the turkey so it can quickly be reheated to serve along with dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberries, rolls, and of course, pumpkin pie!

When it comes time to serve, some of the office and classroom staff come to help Marcia and her team.  Seven or eight individuals make certain that everyone gets a hot meal as quickly and efficiently as possible.  It’s always really a good time, although a lot of work. Those we serve at Bost are really looking forward to it, as is Marcia.  She said, “They have a good time and it’s nice to see how happy it makes everyone!”

Pulling off this huge dinner every year takes a lot of planning, time, and effort, but it is a well-oiled machine at this point.  Marcia maintains notes from year to year so she can improve the process.  Fortunately, the expense of the meal is covered through our USDA Special Nutrition Grant, so nearly all those we serve can enjoy the event for free!  This year’s Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Friday, November 12.

Thank you, Marcia, and your staff, for all you do!
