Art Classes at Bost – Spring Recap Thank you, Artist Cathy Mason!
Home » Art Classes at Bost – Spring Recap Thank you, Artist Cathy Mason!

Time flies when you are having fun, and we are having so much fun in the art classes at Bost! There have been so many awesome projects and personal growth happening this session. As this session ends, we want to spotlight and thank Bost’s Residential Artist, Cathy Mason. We are so fortunate to have such a talented and passionate artist lead our art classes. Ms. Mason received her undergraduate from UAFS where she double majored in Studio Art and Psychology. She received a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Arkansas. The combination of both artistic training and counseling has afforded Cathy the opportunity help our student with concerns beyond art. She believes art can be a practice for emotional healing, personal awareness, and self-expression. We are is so grateful to have Cathy teaching our art classes!

During this session, the art class was honored to be able to produce our first ever fabric art pieces. Mason led the class in making eleven flags to present at the April 5th Pandemic Healing through the Arts Walk that Bost participated in with the Arkansas College of Health Education and Core Dance. Each flag was unique and represented how the artists felt coming out of the pandemic. The flags turned out amazing and will be featured this summer at Art on the Border Art Show and Sale July 22 – 23, 2022. The show will take place at Arkansas College of Health Education Research Institute located at 1000 Fianna Way in Fort Smith.

Students also worked on perfecting painting skills using acrylic paints on canvas to show several spring theme topics. We mastered mixing bright and beautiful colors to create realistic landscapes, and many of the students chose to include a boat in water scenes. This gave us a chance to really work on drawing accurate objects with shadows and realistic details.

All the pieces from our spring session will be posted on our website for sale starting in June! Visit our website – to purchase! Ninety percent of the procedures of pieces sold go directly to the artist. If you’d like to help our artists create, we have an Amazon list with needed items. When you make a purchase, you are changing a life.
