ArTs at Bost in NWA and Terra Studios partnered for the first pottery workshop in Rogers on April 12. Jessica R., Deborah J., James M., and Wendy S., along with their Bost staff attendedthe class led by Wren Crockett from Terra Studios with assistance from Arts at Bost NWA art assistant, Holly Freeburg. The budding Bost artists learned via a hands-on approach about the red clay. They began by kneading, then they were walked through the process of creating an ornament by rolling out the clay, decorating the surface and poking a hole for a ribbon. After creating their ornaments, the artists learned how to create a pinch pot by rolling the clay and pinching it into a shape that they liked. Students then decorated the surface of their pots. The artists were then able to experiment with the clay and make objects of their choosing.

Once finished creating, the pieces were taken to Terra Studios to dry fully and be bisque fired once, glazed with Amaco Turquoise glaze, and fired a second time. The turquoise glaze with the red pottery provided a beautiful contrast so details really stood out! Creativity ranged from figures to baskets, bowls, and flowers, and all looked beautiful. We are so excited about the new partnership between ArTs at Bost NWA, Wren, and Terra Studios! We are already looking forward to future pottery workshops.
